Bulk import from Excel

When you're setting up SPM or bringing in a lot of existing work, you don't have to create everything one record at a time. Fill in the SPM Excel template and upload it to create portfolios, initiatives and programs together with budgets, forecasts, actuals, planned resources, risks and decisions.

Import items

  1. Go to Portfolios in the left navigation.

  2. Select Create, then Create from Excel (Download the template or upload a filled workbook).

The Import from Excel panel opens.

Step 1: Download the template

Select Download the template. It's an empty .xlsx workbook with a sheet for each kind of SPM record: Portfolios, Initiatives, Programs, Budget, Forecast, Actual, Planned Resources, Risks and Decisions.

Step 2: Fill it in

Fill in only the sheets you need. For custom fields, add a column headed cf: followed by the field's storage key. The storage keys are on the Custom fields configuration page. A blank cell leaves the stored value unchanged.

Step 3: Upload and preview

Drag the workbook onto the panel, or select the drop area to choose a file. SPM shows a preview before anything is written.

Update records by re-importing

The panel explains how re-uploads match existing data: rows with the same key values update the existing record, and new key values create new records.
