Programs, delivery connections and dependencies

A program is a delivery unit inside an initiative. It connects the initiative to where the work happens, such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Smartsheet, Monday.com or a WorkBoard workstream.

Add a program

  1. Open the initiative. In the Programs panel on the Overview tab, select Add (or select + Add on the Programs tab):

Connected projects

Documents

Files for the program, up to 50 MB each (PDF, images, Office documents, MP4 or ZIP).

Click on Create.

Connect delivery work

Under Connected projects, select + Add and choose a source: Jira, Azure DevOps, Smartsheet, monday.com, Workstream or External roadmap link.

The connect dialog lets you search the tool for what to connect. It shows how much work your selection covers before you select Connect.

If your own account isn't linked to the tool yet, the dialog shows Connect Jira → (or the equivalent for the other tool). Authorize the connection in the new window that opens, then refresh the page.

Measure progress

Under Progress (Choose how this program's progress is measured), pick one:

  • Referenced OKRs and KRs: calculated from the OKRs and key results on the program's Outcomes tray.

  • Manually updated: the program lead sets and updates progress directly, in Current progress (%).

  • Connected projects and epics: calculated from the items under Connected projects, refreshed nightly. You can choose it once a project or epic is connected.

Keep contributors up to date

Add people or teams to Contributors by hand, or let SPM add them from the connected work:

  1. Tick Automate contributors from connected projects and teams. SPM auto-adds people working on the connected projects and selected teams.

  2. Select Sync now to update the list straight away.

Syncing only ever adds people, so remove anyone who doesn't belong
